“바다의 풍랑은 삶의 의지를 이기지 못한다”

풍어와 만선을 기원하며 불리던 노동요 ‘황해도 배치기'를 재해석한 곡이다.

바다라는 삶과 죽음의 경계에서 맹렬한 파도에 맞서던 뱃사람들, 그들의 절박한 삶의 에너지를 담대하게 부른다.

* 배치기 : 만선으로 귀항할 때, 배에 오색 종이 꽃으로 장식된 봉죽(고기의 양을 재는 장대)을 달고 풍물을 치며 흥겹게 노래하고 춤을 추며 들어올 때 부르던 노래.

“The storm on the sea can't beat the will to live.”

This song reinterprets ‘Hwanghaedo Baechigi’ a work song that wishes for a big catch and safety on a boat.

The Tune sings boldly the life energy and desperation of the sailors who fought like fierce waves against the ocean that was a boundary between life and death.

*Baechigi : A sea shanty that plays when the ships return to a port with a hoisted bongjuk(a flag decorated with artificial flowers symbolizing a full load of fish).
